Introduction:

Kovalam, is one of the most beautiful and famous beaches of Kerala. Kovalam beach is located at 16th kms south of Trivandrum city, the capital city of South Indian state Kerala. Kovalam is the only beach resort of Kerala, and is very popular with the Indian as well as international tourists. Kovalam beach offers the best of facilities to its visitors like Sun bathing, Yoga and meditation, Ayurvedic Rejuvenation, Swimming, Catamaran cruising, Herbal body toning massages, Special Cultural Programmes,  great seafood  and plenty of other options. Kovalam beach is the most famous South Indian beach. The beach is bordered with low cost lodging houses, and restaurants which offer adequate facilities, at affordable tariffs - ideal for a long stay.

When to visit:  November to February is the best time to visit.

Attraction in Kovalam:

The Kovalam Beach :  The beautiful Kovalam beach is situated 10 km away  from Thiruvananthapuram. This beach is regarded as one of the most sought after beaches of India. Kovalam beach offers the best of facilities to its visitors like Sun bathing, Swimming, Ayurvedic Rejuvenation, Yoga and meditation, Herbal body toning massages, Special Cultural Programmes, Catamaran cruising, great seafood  and plenty of other options. You also enjoy the water sports in Kovalam beach.

Samudra beach : Samudra  beach is a another famous beach in Kovalam. This beach is 4 kms north of Kovalam.  This beach is not private but, just a 15 min walk or Rs 50 ride northwards from Lighthouse Beach, it is virtually free of pestering beach sellers. 

Shri Dharmasastha Temple : This is one of the most ancient temples in Kerala, Close to the Kovalam beach. The temple is open on Fridays and on the Aayilyam days of Malyalam calendar. This temple attracts a whole lot of visitors during the annual festival held in the month of January.

Kaudiar Palace:  The Kaudiar Palac is the home of the late Maharaja Sree Chitra Thirunal Bala Rama Varma and his family. The Kaudiar Place is a beautiful palace with every inch of the building orthography elegance. It is architecturally beautiful and deserves every bit of attention.  The view of the grand old building from the gate is excellent, but unfortunately it is off limits to the public. If you are lucky, you could probably walk a few steps inside to get a better view provided the gate keeper is friendly enough.

Lighthouse Beach:  Lighthouse beach is one of the most popular beach in Kovalam. This beach is beautifully set with palm trees dotting the headlands to the south. It is also a perfect location for adventure lovers and one can enjoy water sports like swimming, para cycling, para gliding etc.

How to get there:

By Air :  Trivandrum is the nearest airport, its just 15kms away from Kovalam.

By Rail:  Thampanur railway station in Trivandrum is a main rail head of the Southern Railway. Its just 15 kms away from Kovalam.
